- The Castlefield canal basin is the most pleasant short walk from Deansgate if the weather cooperates, with the Roman fort remains and a run of bars along the water.
- If your window is tight, stay around Piccadilly — the station area has enough to absorb ninety minutes without any risk of missing the train back.
Staying airside instead
- Terminal 2 has been substantially expanded and is the most comfortable of the three, with the widest food and retail offering. Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 are older and more functional.
- Free wifi runs throughout with no time limit, though it slows noticeably at peak. Coverage is better away from the busiest seating areas.
- Airside food outlets mostly open from around 04:30 to 05:00, so a very early departure may mean eating landside before security — Terminal 2's pre-security options open earliest.
