Apply at the border/transit counter with your passport and onward ticket; you'll get a temporary entry permit (expect 60–90 minutes at peak). Into the city: the Daxing Airport Express train runs to Caoqiao station in about 20 minutes (around ¥35), where you transfer to Metro Line 10 or 19 for central Beijing — the airport is about 46–50 km south of downtown, so budget the extra metro leg. Pay with Alipay/WeChat Pay or a single-ride ticket, and carry ¥200–300 cash as backup. One thing to know: the free Beijing Express layover tour does NOT operate from Daxing — only from Capital (PEK) — so from PKX you explore independently. The city is about 50 minutes away one-way; as a rule of thumb you want 7+ hours before exiting is worth the queues, and you should be back through security 90 minutes before boarding.
Worth your hours in Beijing
- 8h+: Daxing Airport Express to Caoqiao, then metro toward the centre for the Temple of Heaven (closest major site to the south side) plus a Peking-duck meal
- 9–10h: push on to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and Jingshan Park's overlook, watching the return clock carefully given the airport's distance
- shorter or independent: since the free layover tour doesn't run from PKX, a pre-booked private layover tour is the low-stress way to see city highlights and get back on time
Staying airside instead
- One vast single terminal (Zaha Hadid design) — no inter-terminal transfers, though the radial concourses mean long walks to some gates
